Closing The Door To Temptation
Do you love your life more than you love God? Are you tempted to do things that you know is in
error? Below are some examples of how we might love our life more than we
love God.
A. Love of money = money is the root of evil. Money is good, but when we become greedy and or covet what is not ours, money becomes evil. Money takes us away from loving and wanting to know God because we get selfish over it. Greediness makes us want to strive for more and we lose sight of
God and where true happiness is.
B. Love of sex = sex is a powerful action. Physical feelings of the action take over the flesh and make us want to do things that are harmful to others and ourselves. Hollywood, magazines, society and television portray sexual perversions and adultery as normal. But it is not at all normal for those who have the Spirit of Christ in them.
Sex is beautiful between married couples. Anything else it becomes perverted.
C. Love of addictions = too much of a good thing is bad for our bodies and makes us do things that we normally would not do. When we have a beer and quit that’s okay, but when we get drunk it becomes a sin. We become tempted to sin against our bodies when we are under the influence of drugs and alcohol.
D. Blaming our sins on Satan= we know that Satan is very much alive and that he tempts people into his devilish schemes so we will not become Godly and loving people. We should not blame our sinful behavior on Satan for the simple reason that we can choose to follow God and do His will. If Satan tempts anyone it is because they have chosen to follow him.
E. Love of life and self = all of those above rolled into one. In part III
of this e-book, we discuss more on how loving our life causes us to sin. Some actions are not sinful in themselves, but they are not appropriate because they control our lives and lead us away from God. Some of our selfish actions may hurt others. Anything that we do that hurts instead of helps is not right.

What
is our spiritual self? How
will we know when to listen to the spiritual self?
The spiritual self is the element of an individual’s character, such
as principles, beliefs, morals, convictions, and the like that are
rooted from the Holy Spirit within us. The Spirit of God resides within
our hearts and minds and is a guide for Christians to follow in their
daily activities and interactions with others.
When we rely upon the Holy Spirit for guidance and apply that
direction in our lives, we our doing the will of God.
